Week Two Homework | Covenant 2-4 | Kay Arthur

In Full Armor!

Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Eph 6:11

Why Armor? Colossians 1:13 tells us that when you receive Jesus Christ you move from the kingdom of Satan to the kingdom of God- and Satan desires to have you, even as he was demanding permission to get to Peter, that he might sift him as wheat. Luke 22:31

In John 8:44 Jesus describes the Devil as the Father of Lies.

Our note card verses this week are pointed toward spiritual warfare. Remember Satan is the prince of this world with the entire world lying in his power, then you need armor, don't you? Of course! That's what spiritual warfare is all about.

We learn about the complete Armor of God in Eph 6.
vs.14 Loins with Truth and having put on the Breastplate of Righteousness
vs.16 Shield of Faith
vs.17 The helmet of Salation and that the Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God.

Girls we use the sword in battle not only to defend ourselves but also to put the enemy to death!

What does John 17:15-17 say about the Evil One and about Truth?

The Word of God protects us from the evil one, because the Word is Truth and the evil one flees from every Word out of the mouth of God.

Now this is gonna blow you away, well at least it did me! Love how this all ties in.

Read Rev 19:11-16 ....let me outline it the best I can.

-Rider on white horse, proclaiming His name.

-His name is the Word of God.

-Out of his mouth comes a sharp double-edged sword. (Sword is the Word of God)

On the day the Lord returns,
You are in your car driving home. Thoughts wander to the game you want to see or meal you want to eat, when suddenly a sound unlike any you've ever heard fills the air. The sound is high above you. A trumpet? A choir? A choir of trumpets? You don't know, but you want to know.. So you pull over, get out of your car, and look up. As you do, you see you aren't the only curious one. The roadside has become a parking lot. Car doors are open, and people are Staring at the sky. Shoppers are racing out of the grocery store. The Little League baseball game across the street has come to a halt.. Players and parents are searching the clouds And what they see, and what you see, has never before been seen.

As if the sky were a curtain, the drapes of the atmosphere part. A brilliant light spills onto the earth. There are no shadows. None.

From every hue ever seen and a million more never seen. Riding on the flow is an endless fleet of angels.. They pass through the curtains one myriad at a time, until they occupy every square inch of the sky. North. South. East. West.

Thousands of silvery wings rise and fall in unison, and over the sound of the trumpets, you can hear the cherubim and seraphim chanting, Holy, holy, holy... The final flank of angels is followed by twenty-four silver-bearded elders and a multitude of souls who join the angels in worship.
Suddenly, the heavens are quiet. All is quiet. The angels turn, you turn, the entire world turns and there He is.... Jesus.
Through waves of light you see the silhouetted figure of Christ the King. He is atop a great stallion, and the stallion is atop a billowing cloud. He opens his mouth, and you are surrounded by his declaration:
I am the Alpha and the Omega.

The angels bow their heads... The elders remove their crowns... And before you is a Figure so consuming that you know, instantly you know: Nothing else matters...... Forget stock markets and school reports. Sales meetings and football games. Nothing is newsworthy... All that mattered, matters no more... For Christ has come.

Shout for praise!

Have a awesome day with the Lord!
~Melanie

Note Card Verse:
James 4:4
Friendship with the world is hatred toward God. Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

1 John 5:19
We are children of God, and the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Rev 19:11 KJV
Heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True!

John 17:17
We are Sanctified by the Truth; God's Word is Truth.

Covenant 2-3

Girls, today we move from ordinary to extraordinary, from the old to the new creation in Christ Jesus. We put on a new self. We become a new person because we wear His robe.

Isaiah 61:3 KJV.. Give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Isaiah 61:10 NIV.. I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

The Word is so good! Till next time, ~Melanie

Note Card Verse:
Matthew 26:28 NIV This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Phillipians 2:6 The Message Jesus had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what.

John 1:1-2 NIV

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

John 1:14 NIV

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:17 NIV

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Week Two Homework | Covenant 2-2 | Kay Arthur

If the new covenant gives us forgiveness of sins, what was God asking us to share that we received as partakers of the new covenant in His blood?

To remember that He shed His blood for each of us- we are a new creation, forgiven and clothed with the blood of Christ.

I found the coolest thing....below is the Colossians 3 passage that Kay points out in our homework, but really after reading it in The Message Bible I find that it pretty much nails the entire point for day two.

Let's read it from The Message Bible ......enjoy.

Colossians 3:1-10 (The Message)
He Is Your Life
So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it.
Pursue the things over which Christ presides.
Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you.
Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that's where the action is. See things from his perspective.

Your old life is dead.

Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God.

He is your life.

When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you'll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you.

Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ.
And that means killing off everything connected with that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy.
That's a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God.
It's because of this kind of thing that God is about to explode in anger.
It wasn't long ago that you were doing all that stuff and not knowing any better.
But you know better now, so make sure it's all gone for good: bad temper, irritability, meanness, profanity, dirty talk.
Don't lie to one another.
You're done with that old life.
It's like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you've stripped off and put in the fire.
Now you're dressed in a new wardrobe.
Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it.
All the old fashions are now obsolete.
Words like Jewish and non-Jewish, religious and irreligious, insider and outsider, uncivilized and uncouth, slave and free, mean nothing.
From now on everyone is defined by Christ, everyone is included in Christ.

A good note card taken day girls! Grab some cards, jot some scriptures down and stick them around the house for today or in your car or in your purse or type them on your phone.........shesh, you get the idea right? Good heavens, how many people do you actually know that can jump up and down about note cards? Well you do know one, now let's get started.....

Note Card Verses:
Galatians 3:26-27 (The Message)
By faith in Christ you are in direct relationship with God. Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start. It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe—Christ's life, the fulfillment of God's original promise.

Romans 13:11-14 (The Message)
But make sure that you don't get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can't afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don't loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!

Colossians 3:1-2 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

Colossian 3:10 (NIV) You have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator!

Ephesians 4:20-24 In reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Matthew 26:28 My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins!!

What an amazing awesome GOD we serve girls! Seek Him Anew! Blessings till tomorrow when the Word Becomes Flesh! ~Melanie

Week Two Homework | Covenant 2-1 | Kay Arthur

Just wanted to post a scripture to start a new week of study. This is from the video!
Romans 5:12

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death, came to all men, because all sinned...for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.

Happy day one of week two girls! I do pray you are all doing well and hanging in there, looking straight ahead to what the Lord has in store for us as we study covenant. Today we jump into 1Samuel 17&18 . In 17 we learn that David going out against the Philistine got Saul's attention.

In 18 Saul took him in and did not let him return home. David went out wherever Saul sent him and prospered. In vs. 3&4 we find that Jonathan, Saul's son made a covenant with David. Jonathan gave David five things, his robe, armor, sword, bow and belt. He made sure not to miss a piece of armor, after all what good is armor if it is not complete!

Tomorrow girls, it looks like we are gonna go into more detail about the armor, clothing and what it means to be clothed in Christ! How exciting, if I could I would move on to day two right now. Holding back...................till tomorrow. ~Melanie

Note Card Verse
Romans 5:19 (The Message)
18-19 Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person did it wrong and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, another person did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life! One man said no to God and put many people in the wrong; one man said yes to God and put many in the right.

Matthew 4:4 (Contemporary English Version)4 Jesus answered,
`No one can live only on food. People need every word that God has spoken. "

Week One Homework | Covenant 1-5 | Kay Arthur

Covenant Works 1-5

Go ahead and read the passages listed on the pages of your homework.
Here's an outline of what discovered today...

1. Moving on to Exodus we find the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in bondage to the Egyptians, as God said they would be for 400 yrs.

2. Ex. 2:23-25 God remembers His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and took action.

3. Ex. 3 The burning bush appears before Moses. God told Moses he would be the deliverer of the children of Israel. They would be coming out of bondage. Isn't this exciting! God keeps His promises!

4. God made the covenant, it was unconditional. God was keeping the covenant! But we read in Ex 6:9 They did not listen to Moses. Instead of listening to God, believing God, clinging to God and His covenant promise, they were caught in the bondage of their circumstances. Sounds like so many people today doesn't it.

5. Now we move to Ex 15. They were out of Egypt and God drowned Pharaoh and his army in the sea that He had parted. Now they were on their journey to the land promised by God through covenant.

6. In Ex 19 & 20 The Israelities camped at the foot of Mt. Sinai and Moses went up on the mountan to talk with the Lord. Moses came down from the mountain with the 10 commandments. {covenant}

Read Matthew 26:26-29 NASB ... Don't miss a thing...Read it once more!

I am literally out of my chair jumping up and down as I type! I love how the NIV translates vs. 29........"I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom." I love that word ...anew, to do again in a different way. I can't wait till that day and O what a day it will be! Kay ends this day with 'Fall on your face in awe!' How fitting that statement is.

Now here are some notes that should be on your chart. Feel free to help me out by leaving a comment, It is possible that I missed something. Remember I don't have the answers from a teachers manual, I simple do my homework the same as you. :)

Covenants learned so far:
1. Gen 6
God and Noah
Noah and family to be spared by entering the ark when the flood comes.
Noah listened to God's detailed instructions how to build the ark and he did what God told him regarding the animals.

2. Gen 9
God and Noah
Promise never to destroy the earth with water again.
God placed a rainbow in the sky as a symbol of his promise.

Abraham and Abimelech
Treaty of Beersheba
7 lambs to represent

4. Gen 26:28-31
Isaac and Abimelech
Treaty of Peace
A feast

Jacob and Labon
Covenant of Peace
Jacob set up a pillar of stones

God and Moses

Book of covenant (Words of God)

Moses built an altar and set up tweleve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel. He offered burnt offerings and sprinkled some of the blood on the altar and the rest in bowls. Moses took the book of the covenant and read it to the people and sprinkled the blood on them and said..This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.

God and Israel
The 10 commandments

Moses was on the mountain 40 days...go ahead and read Ex 34:29-35 how Moses had a radiant face when he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of Testimony in his hands. The Israelities seen this clearly but Moses was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. The Israelities were afraid to come near him. O girls, this is powerful truth! Isn't it still true today, because of covenant we too can display God's radiance.

God and All People
The Messiah
Messenger of the Covenant

Jesus and Disciples
Forgiveness of Sins ... Rememberance of Him...
Communion ...Drink (blood) Bread (body)

Note Card Verse
2 Corinthians 5:17 My favorite version of these is the KJV!
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. KJV

2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. KJV

Malachi 3:1 Choose your favorite version.
"Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming," says the LORD of hosts. NASB

"See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come," says the LORD Almighty. NIV

How I admire the Word of the Lord! Isn't He Amazing! The Word of the Lord runs so smoothly doesn't it? Ok, that was a long morning of study. Lots to think about and meditate on. Have a wonderfully awesome day girls. See you tonight! ~Melanie

Covenant Love 1-3

Genesis 15

Don't miss vs. 17....A smoking oven and blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces. On that day God stated the covenant between them.

Everything God does is based on covenant. Meditate on Gen 15 once again and jot down anything that stands out to you.

As Sure as God Himself 1-4
After you read and list what you learned from Gen 17.

Move on and look up the next scriptures that cover covenant, treaty or oath and complete your chart on pg. 36 with your discoveries. If there is a part of the chart you don't understand, I'll discuss it at the end of the week. For now here are the scriptures and between whom the covenant is being made.

Abraham and Abimelech

Isaac and Abimelech

Jacob and Laban

Understanding the beginning covenants is key to understanding the entire concept of what it means to be in covenant with the Lord. And this is only day 4 and we have covered so much ground already. Girls, day 5 is a bit longer, so plan some extra time ahead. Hang tight we are in for an eye opening truth in covenant. ~Melanie

Reflect the covenant and the sign of the covenant..
What does a rainbow mean to you? Read Revelation 4 to see a rainbow like you'd never image.
Write or print out vs. 3. What do you see?
At the end of this week's homework you will find a chart to list covenants on page 36.
This chart is to list all of the Old Testament Covenants that Kay mentions, all the way to Matthew at the Last Supper. Please do your best at charting these, your list will come in as a quick reference later in the study!
If you are having trouble charting, I will go over it on day 5. So hang in there.

Covenant Beginnings

I so love how Kay starts this day with....
So you can fully appreciate the EXCITING, ENLIGHTENING, ENCOURAGING, and LITERAL LIFE-CHANGING truths in the covenants of God.
Okay, now she will ask you to color-code certain things. Here is the link to print the chart. (If you choose)
Marking Key Words This is simply a learning style that may not fit your style and that's okay, don't feel like you have to do it, no pressure.

Key Notes:
 Reading in Gen 6:5-22.
Color-code per Kay's instructions.
If you don't wanna color in your bible feel free to print them out and put in a 3prong folder.
There are only two personal questions in day 1. Answer them from your heart.
Just so you are aware there are many color coding references she adds in the homework that are not listed on your key word handout.
As you come across one, I would recommend adding it for this study.
Today she asks us to mark references to time.
The bookmark is to carry in your bible for future references to the covenant so don't worry about them not being on it. :)

Note Card: choose your favorite version.
2 Cor 5:9
We also have as our ambition...to be pleasing to Him. NASB

Make it my goal to please Him. NIV

Just an idea to help you organize your note taking. The homework..don't panic..this is a very indepth study and will take a bit of time...simply do your best! About the colored pencils and marking...Kay is going to take me on a 'color coding' adventure since I have never taken a precept study. Remember this is an option, if you just aren't into it, no stress, at least underline or use your own marking so you don't miss anything. On page 11 Kay gives us another idea ... simply mark the key words on a note card and use it as a bookmark. She points out that throughout this study, covenant is the word you for sure don't wanna miss marking.

God is light, in him there is no darkness at all.

I am but a lover of the Word, a broken soul, walking along side you as we grow in the Word together.
It is my joy to serve you!

A Womans Walk with God | Self-Control

Winning the Battle of Self-Control
1. One is the control of the self- self-restraint, self-government, and self-command.Galatians 5:17
2. Object of control- our passions, appetites, pleasures, desires and impulses.Ephesians 6:10-13
3. To live in a self-controlled body is to be disciplined by the soul to glorify God in all its actions.1 Corinthians 6:19

Self-Control DOES...
-controls and checks the self.
-restrains the self.
-disciplines and masters the self.
-holds in and commands the self.
-says, "No!" to self.

Self-Control DOES NOT...
-yeild to temptation.
-give in to desires.
-participate in sin.
-indulge itself.
-satisfy itself.

Struggling for Self-Control
Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity. 1 John 2:15

Nurturing Self-Control
-Begin with Christ
-Monitor your input. "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes." Psalm 101:3 KJV
-Stay busy. Refuse to eat the bread of 'idleness' Proverbs 31:27
-Saying No is the key to self-control, the word that the Lord blesses.. "Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man who has no control over his spirit." Proverbs 25:28
-Pray, Pray about every aspect of your life!

We can claim His power, walk by His Spirit, excercise self-control and win the battle over temptations. then we will display the beauty of Christ as we walk with Him through our everyday lives!

What awesome truth girls! Till Tomorrow,~Melanie

A Womans Walk with God | Gentleness

Growing Strong Through Gentleness

1.Gentleness Means Trusting the Lord.
Jesus says BLESSED are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5

Faith believes that everything that happens in our life is allowed by God and that He is able to help us handle our situation.
Our faith in the God behind this truth keeps us from struggling and fightling because faith believes that God with fight for us! Psalm 60:12.

2. Gentleness means submitting to the Lord.
Believing him.
One whose will has been broken.
BECOMES.
One who is no longer broken displays complete dependence on the Lord, yields all self will to the Lord.

So breathe a huge sigh of release and hand over to God every aspect of your life.
Asking him to fill you will complete joy!

3. Gentleness means follow Christs example.
Jesus said:
Take my yoke upon you, learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. Matthew 11:29.

4. Gentleness means bowing the Soul.
Walking with gentleness does not carry arrogance and pride.

5. Putting on a Gentle Spirit
What's the behavior of gentleness?
Peter says it is God-fearing and blameless conduct.
The Lord controls each and every situation in our life.
Peter also says you are to be concerned with the internal condition of your heart.

"Hidden person of the Heart"
Such a heart should reflect a gentle and quiet spirit.
Faith is the only way to walk in this way, a trust that looks to God in hope, and is directed towards Him and rests in Him.

As women of God, we are to put on all these elements of gentleness

(submission, behavior, heart, trust and faith)..
just as we adorn our body with clothing everyday. We must visit God in the prayer closet and put on the garment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is rare and precious, truly beyond price.

6. To walk with Gentleness means to withstand (As the book says 'take it')

A woman who is practicing gentleness bears with tranquility the disturbances others create, endures ill treatment, withstands misunderstandings, carries the word of God in her heart and displays the evidence of God at work in her life. Wow, that was some hard truth right there girls!

Ask God for wisdom to become a woman as this...James 1:5.

Rely on the Lord for His wisdom and mercy and protection, we will indeed grow strong through gentleness.

How do we walk in gentleness?

1. Accept
2. Pray
3. Refuse to complain or grumble
4. Refuse to manipulate....

"Through God we shall do valiantly, and it is He who will tread down our adversaries." Psalm 60:12

Proverbs 3:5...one of my favorite scripture card references....

This chapter was truly eye-widening!
I'll leave you with that thought.

A Womans Walk with God | Faithfulness

Following Through in..Faithfulness
Insights...It is vitally important that God's faithfulness be a part of our character.

Faithfulness marks God's presence in our life.

1. God is faithful...The Rock!..a God of faithfulness! -Deuteronomy 32:4
God is a Rock..and there should be something of the rock in us!
During trials count on God's faithfulness -Lamentations 3:22-23.
Jesus is Faithful and True -Revelation 19:11

2. Our faithfulness to God and His word, does not exclude-but includes others.
Be faithful in all things. 1 Timothy 3:11

3. Marks faithfulness
-follow thru on whatever you do
-show up early so others don't worry
-keep your word
-keep commitments and appointments
-happy to help and serve others
-be devoted to your duties

I know this is quite the requirement!
Remember all we have to do is ASK....
ask for His strength to go to work cultivation His faithfulness in ours lives.

4. Opposite of faithfulness
To be unreliable means you can't be trusted, depended upon, doesn't come through, and won't handle responsibility.

5. Essence of faithfulness
Just do it! James 4:15

Serving God calls for faithfulness- to Him and to his call to use His gifts and serve His people.

Jesus displayed divine kindness!

The response of Goodness...
Goodness is active kindness and flows out of a heart that stands ready to do good!

In time of need...
He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help. Hebrews 4:16 The Message Bible

It is in prayer...
That we thank Him for the people in our lives, who cause us to need His grace.
We acknowledge that His patience, kindness and goodness enable us to truly care and act out His love toward others. In our pain.. tears.. brokenness we look to Him.
May we grow in these graces.
In Jesus' name.
AMEN

The fruit of the Spirit is...PEACE.

TRUTHS ABOUT PEACE

2. Peace has nothing to do with challenges or crises, and everything to do with knowing that our times are in God's hands.
3. Peace has nothing to do with the conditions of our life, and everything to do with knowing that God is all-sufficient
4. Peace is an inward repose and serenity of soul that indicates a heart at rest..regardless of circumstances..we place complete confidence in God minute by minute.

TRUE SPIRITUAL PEACE
Comes with knowing that our heavenly Father is continually with us!!
Psalm 139:7-12
2 Cor 12:9
Phil 4:19 2
Cor 9:8

TRUSTING GOD
We make the sacrifice of trust and experience God's peace.
When we choose not to panic, but to rest in God's presence.
When we release our fear and trust in God's wisdom and ways.
When we reject our nervousness and remember that God is in control.
When we ignore our dread and instead accept God's dealings.
Isaiah 9:6.....Prince of Peace!!!
Isaiah 26:3....Perfect Peace!!!
Psalm 119:165...Nothing causes us to stumble.
