Week 3 Homework | Breaking Free

Girls, we are stepping into another powerful week of study!
I cannot wait to discover what the Lord has in store for us.
I would like to share my devotional reading this morning before starting my homework.
It is from Jeremiah 17:5-10 msg...
God's message...
Cursed is the strong one
who depends on mere humans.
Who thinks he can make it on muscle alone
and sets God aside as dead weight.
He's like a tumbleweed on the prairie,
out of touch with the good earth.
He lives rootless and aimless
in a land where nothing grows.
But blessed is the man who trusts me, God,
the woman who sticks with God.

They're like trees replanted in Eden,
putting down roots near the rivers.
Never a worry through the hottest of summers,
never dropping a leaf,
Serene and calm through droughts,
bearing fresh fruit every season.
The heart is hopelessly dark and decietful,
a puzzle that no one can figure out.
But I , God, search the heart and examine the mind.
I get to the heart of the human.
I get to the root of things.
I treat them as they really are,
not as they pretend to be!
Amen? Amen!

11. growing in confidence

12. prayer
Father,
According to Your Word,
faith is being sure of what I hope for and certain of what I do not see.
Increase my assurance and certainty of the things You've promised
but that I cannot see!

Day 2
A Message from the high and towering God,
who lives in Eternity,
whose name is Holy:
I live in the high and holy places,
but also with the low-spirited, the spirit-crushed,
And what I do is put new spirit in them,
get them up and on their feet again.
Isaiah 57:15 msg

1. God's name and renown

2.  "X" the scale

3. I am the Lord, that is my name.  I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.

4. pride

5. before he brings darkness

6. he will weep

7. pride controls our thoughts, attitude, desires, heart, decieves, destroys

8. pride is the enemy
(straight down the list of scriptures)
pride, arrogance, evil behavior, perverse speech
disgrace
quarrels
destruction
decieves

9. humility as a friend
(straight down the list of scriptures)
the Lord will lift us up
He will revive us
He esteems us and the ones that tremble at His Word!

10. Those who walk in PRIDE, the Lord is able to HUMBLE!
When I looked up this verse I had written:
Humble myself, OR, He'll humble me!
Taken from Romans 12:3 and Ephesians 5:1...
this is my prayer for today:
Lord,
Help me to be careful not to think of myself more highly than I ought,
but rather think of myself with sober judgment,
in accordance with the measure of faith You have given me.
Help me to not think of myself as anything less than a child of Yours,
Lord, dearly loved by You.
Your deep desire is for me to possess both humility and security!
Amen?
Amen!
---------------------------------------------------
Day 3
Who shapes a god and casts an idol, which can profit him nothing! Isaiah 44:10

1. He wants us to come to Him. To seek Him.
To be filled and satisfied with Him.
He wants us to know all that he has to offer!

2. Seek the Lord while he may be found, call on him while he is there.

3. Personal
Any dissatisfaction I have experienced in my life was self-inflicting!
When I rededicated my life I went through major sifting to renew me to wholeness!
I'm talking years, some may not take long, but in my case it took longer.  Probably my own fault of not willing to completely surrender.  Trusting the Lord has been the best and most life giving decision I have ever made. I had a lot of 'stuff' that needed a major re haul.  Extreme makeover inside and out!  Sometimes that's what it takes, demolition and a complete rebuild!  And, I'm not talking about the one that is completed in seven days!  Thank the Lord for that.....He's timing is perfect!
He sets us up to succeed, not to transform us instantly before we are ready!
He reveals to us in his time not ours!

4. Personal
For me, I knew only that I strive to survive and satisfy myself.
I knew nothing about how the Lord was meant to fulfill my inner most desires of my heart!
Thank you Lord for revealing the truth to me!

5. Their land was full of idols.
They bowed to the work of their own hands.
Their hearts were filled with pride at what they had done.

6. By boasting
and being proud of all "I" have accomplished.
But, we are meant to move over and make the "I"
into "HIM"!

7. Idols do nothing for us, besides fill our empty places with destruction of self.

8. We grow exhausted!
We are mere humans that need rest, food and water!
The point is we must take the time to revive ourselves in order
to remain strong.  That's where the Lord takes part.  We are designed
to need him to seek him to have a relationship with him.

9. Idol in our lives?

10. He made us to be His servants,
He has an everlasting covenant that He will not ever ever ever forget us!

11. So easily I have misled myself which are the enemies intentions.
His intentions are to harm us, but I am a firm believer that what the enemy
intends for harm, the Lord will use for good!
Lies .....The enemy is a lier and tries to make us believe I can do things without
the Lords strength and desire to do them alone.  Ultimately this is the enemies trap,
that leads to a deep dark pit!  That is exactly where he wants you and I to be!  Miserable!
Girls, we don't have to fall for it.  Don't be decieved!
"The Scripture reads, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."
Not, I can do all things by myself who gives me strength!!

12. Respond to the lesson today....
Nothing compares to the ultimate peace and joy that comes with knowing the Lord!
Embrace the truth, because it is what ultimately will set us free!
Which is the Word of God!

Taken from Psalm 62:6-7-
 my prayer for today...
You alone are my ROCK and my SALVATION;
you are my FORTRESS,
I will not be shaken!
My SALVATION and my HONOR depend on You;
You are my mighty ROCK,
my REFUGE.

Girls have a fabulous Saturday!
Please leave a comment and share your thoughts and your memory verses.
I'll see you back here on Monday
as we discuss the significance of prayer!
I enjoy spending time in the Word with you,
~Melanie
-----------------------------------------------------------
Day 4
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer nad petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus!
Philippians 4:6-7

Don't fret or worry.  Instead of worrying, pray.  Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns.  Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.  It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life!  msg

1. .....pray, pray, pray and present my requests before the Lord!

2. wisdom and revelation
see the truth

3. to answer this question I'm going to refer to the Message paraphrased verse.

ask the God of our Master,
Jesus Christ, the God of glory-
to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally,
your eyes focused and clear,
so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do,
grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers,
oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him-
ENDLESS ENERGY,
BOUNDLESS STRENGTH!!

4. No

5. Self- Discipline
Enemy distracts me
Laziness
I must train myself to put on the full armor of God every morning.
So I might fight off the fiery darts of the enemy!

6. Prayer equips me with the Power and Strength I need to fight the enemy.
-Truth-Faith-Word of God-

7. Gospel of Peace

8. prayer

9. Respond to the lesson today.
O Lord,
You have searched me and You know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
You perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
You are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue,
You know it completely, O Lord!
Psalm 139:1-4
-------------------------------------------
Day 5
1. Isaiah 64:4 & 1 Cor 2:9
Since ancient times no one has heard,
no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
However, as it is written:
"No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him".

2. enjoy God's presence

3. Jesus healed on the Sabbath. The Pharisees through a royal fit.

4. circumcision debate

5. Jews/Gentiles

6. vs. 16 Don't be over righteous
vs. 18 The man who fears the Lord will avoid all extremes

7. By turning religion into an 'outcasting' social calendar.

I will see you in the morning as we kick off our 4th week!
Blessings, ~Melanie

Week 2 Homework | Breaking Free

Girls, I heard this song this morning and immediately (with toothbrush in mouth!) ran to my computer to search for a video, then proceeded to plop it smack dab in the middle of this blog!
(video no longer available)
It is so fitting for this week of study!

20. The next part you mark T,F or P....do this honestly.
I'm going to turn these verses into prayers, jot them on note cards if you like.

Father, I ask you to reveal to me any areas in my life that do not glorify you.  For your word says whatever I do, I should do it for your glory! 1 Cor 10:31

Father, You word reminds me I am not seeking glory for myself.  For if I glorify myself, my glory means nothing.  Father, you are the one who glorifies me. John 8:50,54

Father, I ask you to help me use my gifts to serve others.  Give me words to speak, that you would have me speak. You provide me with strength to serve and to speak, so that in all things You may be praised. 1 Peter 4:10-11

Father, Help me to learn from the trials I face and rejoice that I participate in the sufferings of Christ, that when His glory is revealed, I will be glad with exceeding joy! 1 Peter 4:12-13

Father, Thank you for treasure in jars of clay, to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from me! 2 Cor 4:7

21. glory

22. Personal Response
In everything I do-strive to gain confidence from the Lord to reflect his glory.

Another great day of study girls!  O how I love to study the word!
Hebrews 4:12 says:
For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;  it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Now read how the Message bible paraphrases it....
God means what he says.  What he says goes.  His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey.  Nothing and no one is impervious to God's Word.  We cant get away from it--no matter what!

I'm praying for everyone of you girls, thank you so much for inviting me on this walk with you!
Till next time, ~Melanie

Day 3
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me and eat what is good and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Isaiah 55:2

1. Truth
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free! John 8:32
Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Psalm 51:6

2. Satisfy
{full- no hunger- no craving- completely full}
When I think of satisfication in my life. I remember back to my life before I completely gave my life to Christ. It was a time I would never choose to go back to. I was in a pit, a deep pit, always searching for more of whatever I thought satisfied me at the time. Searching everything and anything to better myself.....
the only problem is I didn't include the Lord in my plans.

3. food and drink

4. Don't work hard for things that won't completely satisfy you.
Eternal satisfaction is what we're after.

10. Psalm 63:1-8
I wanna share how the Message bible paraphrases this...
God- you're my God!
I can't get enought of you!
I've worked up such a hunger and thirst for God,
traveling across dry and weary deserts.
So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open,
drinking in your strength and glory.
In your generous love I am really living at last!
My lips brim praises like fountains.
I bless you every time I take a breath;
My arms wave like banners of praise to you.
I eat my fill of prime rib and gravy'
I smack my lips.
It's time to shout praises!
If I'm sleepless at midnight,
I spend the hours in grateful reflection.
Because you've always stood up for me,
I'm free to run and play.
I hold on to you for dear life,
and you hold me steady as a post.

11. a satisfied soul and a quenched mouth

Help, God- the bottom has fallen out of my life!  Hear my cry for help! I pray to God-my life a prayer and wait for what he'll say and do.

You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.

Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I'll come right in and sit down to supper with you.
Revelation 3:20 msg

What another fulfilling time spent in Gods word!
I must have my guard up and ready by self-discipline in order to have an adequate fulfilling prayer and study time!
Heavenly Father,
Your word tells me to be on my guard,
to stand firm in the faith,
to be a person of courage,
and to be strong!
Amen? Amen!
1 Cor. 16:13
---------------------------
Day 4
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
The Lord be with all of you. 2 Thess 3:16

1.  at all times and in every way

2. in order straight down the scriptures
Christ is the Prince of Peace
Perfect Peace of mind
Fruit of righteous will be peace
His punishment brought us peace
Covenant of Peace
Upright enter into peace
Governor of Peace

3.Yes, they all lead to Christ as our means of peace.

4. Personal
The moment I completely surrendered to His timing, His way, seeking His strength. My life became filled with peace.  Prayerfully seeking His will- His guidance in all my situations and including Him in every decision.

5. He grieved for them
because they didn't cling on to the peace that the Lord was trying to give them.  Instead they chose to live in a chaotic environment.  He said, God's gift of peace was hidden from their eyes!

6. Holy One
Redeemer
Lord
God

7. Our righteousness would be like the waves of the sea.
We would have peace like a river.

8.Personal
For me, I let anxiety and stress rule me, control me, attack me on a daily basis.  Which ultimately was the result of a pit of depression and self-pity.   Then I learned that isn't the way the Lord intended me to live!  He wants us to live a life filled with all the fruits of the spirit, especially peace.  Peace brings joy, without it leads to despair.  I wanna stay out of that pit!

9. Personal
Daily refilling of strength.  To take the time to fill up in the morning and to give praise in the evening.  I make time to sit quietly in prayer as I sip my first cup of coffee.  My husband has usually just left out the door for work so I start with him, praying over his day.  Then my day and for Him to speak to me as I begin my time in His word.  Finally, I get breakfast on the table and hear the scamper of little feet.  I pray over my kids and for our day before they even sit down at the table.

10.Ongoing
This is a process and a goal that will only be in full completion when we reach the heavens.
Takes a life of surrender, prayer and obedience daily, daily renewing our minds. DAILY.
We need a constant rebuilding of inner strength.

Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other.  None of this going off and doing your own thing.  And cultivate thankfulness.
Let the Word of Christ- the Message- have run of the house.  Give it plenty of room in your lives.
Instruct and direct one another using good common sense.  And sing, sing your hearts out to God!
Let every detail in your lives-words, actions, whatever-be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way!!
Colossians 3:15 msg
---------------------------------------------------
Day 5

My heart is filled with joy this morning as I type.  I love spending time in Gods word and absorbing His presence.  There is not a word I could use to describe it.  It is my prayer that everyone could experience unspeakable joy in the Lords presence.  This day of homework is absolutely powerful!  Soak it in girls!
I prayed this prayer over myself this morning.  Then quickly jotted it down in my prayer journal. I did this before even attempting to do my homework.

Lord God, help me to know this love {His presence} that surpasses knowledge-
that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness {His presence} of God. Ephesians 3:19

1. Safe

2. God is with us

3. I will be with you

4.  they will not sweep over you

5. you will not be burned

6. not -IF- we face trials but -WHEN- we do

7. Personal
I remember the FIRST time I could feel His very presence, at a very young age.
I remember where I was, what I was doing like it was yesterday!
I just found out my parents were divorcing and the life as I knew it was about to change, drastically.
This is what he said to me and made it loud and clear...
I am with you, I will not abandon you- EVER.

8. Personal
Early in my walk when I rededicated my life to the Lord.  It did take some time, I had 'stuff' to deal with.  Sometimes, in order to be renewed and cleansed we must be sifted!

9. Psalm 139:7-12 niv and Hebrews 13:5-6 msg
These are some powerful verses....
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If i rise on wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the eas,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
Don't be obsessed with getting more material things.
Be relaxed with what you have.
Since God assured us,
I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,
we can boldly quote,
God is there, ready to help;
I'm fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me?

10. Stop doubting and believe!

11. after
Peter paniced when he seen the wind {the storm-our trials} and cried out Lord save me!
When the Lord was right there to protect him even through the storm.  We don't have to wait until we sink before we KNOW the Lord will save us!

12. Complete joy in the Lords presence
Not only in daily prayer time, you can experience the Lords presence all day long.
That unspeakable joy can be with us at all times in everything we do!

13.  Prayer
Two scriptures come to mind about stengthening my faith.
2 Cor 5:7 and 2 Cor 10:15
Lord, help me to understand that I've been called by You to walk by faith and not by sight. Strengthen my vision Lord!  Help my faith to grow Lord!

14. Definition of Captivity

15. Write all the benefits then number the examples.
4,3,1,2,5

Closing Prayer and Response....
Father,
Thank you for giving me your Word,
for your enduring promise,
you are always with me.
You are at all times,
always,
greater than the one that is in the world.
Always.
Amen!

Girls congratulations on another week of study!
Enjoy the Lord's presence, seek him all day, every day!
See you tomorrow!!

Digital Scrapbook Page | Seize the Moment

Happy morning,

In just a few minutes the kids will be awake, I will be serving breakfast, looking for shoes, combing hair and grabbing my bible while running out the door.  I just love a busy morning.  Well not really, could be why I homeschool.  :)  The boys carefully pack their bags with just the right books, pencils, erasers all to keep them occupied as they sit and do their work while I entertain ladies in bible study...

I have watched them do this last week as well, and thought to myself, O how I am so thankful for the blessings the Lord has given us.  The choices we make, that impact our lives so.  The forgiveness of bad choices we have made in our past.  Recently, our community has endured two horrific accidents.  I am so thankful to live in such a community that would come together in support for times like these.

Having a heavy heart full of thankfulness this morning, I would like to share a digital scrapbook page I made of our family.  Seize the moment as it is this very moment, we have so much to be thankful for. ~Melanie

Week 1 Homework | Breaking Free

Welcome to the blog girls!
I am so looking forward to studying with you!
Just so you know ahead of time.  I won't be 'quoting' a lot of the homework questions.  What I will do is simply refer to them in a numbered order and you can follow along in your book.
To avoid confusion, this post (week 1 homework) will remain the same post for all 5 days.
Introduction Video...

Note Card Verse:

power caused him to want to control and set himself on the same level as the priests.
Well,  He wanted to be on their level.

8. All of the above.

9.  God hates pride.
Pride is when we put ourselves in control of our lives, putting ourselves before God.  Ultimately it will destroy us.

10. Your thoughts on how to avoid temptation of pride?
We must prayerfully, keep our faith strong and without a doubt know we cannot do anything without him!

Note Card Verse:

................................................
Day 2

In the year that King Uzziah died,  I saw the LORD seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.  Isaiah 6:1

1. Similarities and Differences
They both became powerful because they walked with God.
However, Uzziah became prideful, giving credit to himself for all he has accomplished, which led to leprosy.
Jotham reigned powerfully and conquered kingdoms.  He remained steadfast with the Lord, but failed to control his own people.

2. Learning from the mistakes of others?
Do we truly learn from the mistakes of others.  Maybe, and especially maybe if our parents made mistakes.  We all make mistakes there is certainly not one perfect.  It is human nature to try and live a better life than we were given as a child.....'better' refering to mistakes that we certainly do not want to make as adults.

3. Corrupt

4. Many words could be used here.
I chose Glorious!

5. Unclean Lips

6. Here I am! Send me!
It was obvious to Isaiah the Lord was expecting an answer directly from him.  He was so astonshed by the Lords sight he jumped at the chance to grab ahold of his calling!

7. Loss of a hero?
I personally have not experienced death of a loved one in my life.
I certainly have experienced loss of relationship with family.
However if I were to choose a loved one that has been a hero in my life.  It would be my dear Grandma who passed at a full age of 93!  There are not words to describe a God fearing woman like her.  She was a powerful mentor to me throughout my childhood 'before teen years.'

8. What does it mean when:
Oswald Chambers said 'until the life is faced steadily with God and no one else is of any account whatever?
Until we are serving and living our lives with God as our ultimate mentor.
We must make God our constant, reassurance, ultimate motivater.
I choose to seek him to boost my confidence, not people.

9. Change of plans? Focus?
I remember like it was yesterday the first time I actually took a step out of myself and decided to let God have complete control!  I used to prepare what to say every time I was speaking or leading a group of ladies.  I mean even to the prayer I would close with.  It had to be perfect, a perfect home run every time.  I had no idea how this was stressing me out and literally side tracking what God had intended for me to do.  I may have gotten the result I wanted.  Just not exactly what the Lord had in mind.  He made me aware, I was trying to please them not him.  I was trying to think of things to say I knew they wanted to hear.  At that moment, a sense of peace surrounded me and I was absolutely full of confidence in him to give me the words to say.
John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches.
If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing!

10. remove the high places

11. Respond to what you learned today.
He gives me the assurance I need.  I look to him to boost my confidence.
Rather than the assurance of my peers.

Note card verse:
My guilt has been taken away and my sin atoned for. Isaiah 6:7
To know that truth is exciting....makes me jump up and down and yell...
Here am I, Send me!

Day 3
Whew!  That was a couple of 'big' days.  Lots of reading and study!  I hope you are all still hanging in there and not discouraged.  The first week in always the 'longest', then after adapting to a routine and daily study time it gets easier.  I have to admit it took me two days to complete these.  Hence, why I'm posting both days of homework tonight!  :)

He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.
2 Chronicles 28:4

1.  He made cast idols for worshiping the Baals.
He burned his sons in the fire as sacrifices.
He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places.
He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel.

2. He allowed them to be defeated in battle.

3. 2 Chronicles 28:9-11
They slaughtered them out of rage.  They took them as slaves.

4. 2 Chronicles 28:13-15
They clothed them and gave tehm sandals food and drink and healing balm.  The weak were put on donkeys.

5.  King of Assyria

6. Seek the Lord!

7. Isaiah 7
vs. 11 The Lords says ASK
vs. 12 He Refused to ASK
vs. 9 Reminds us that if we do not stand firm in our faith, we will not stand at all.

8. Ahaz looked to another King for help.  He had an issue with all of them.  Seeking favor of the people rather than the Lord.

8. We are mere humans, full of incompetence.
Seeking gratification and comfort.  Human nature is comforted by the acceptance of others.

9. We serve a patient God.
2 Peter 3:9
He doesn't want anyone to perish, but come to repentance.

10.  Jotham didn't remove them.

11.  He rebuilt the high places, worshiped idols, sacrificed his sons, practiced sorcery, witchcraft, paid no attention when the Lord spoke to him.  He wanted to be in control of his life every step of the way.
In 2 Chronicles 33:12 Manasseh is taken into captivity...and while in his distress he started seeking the Lord and the Lord released him and renewed him to King.  He got rid of all idols and sorcery.  The high places became a place of sacrifice to the Lord.

12. Listen
He should've listened to the Lord the first time.

13. Captivity
has a way of getting our complete attention like the ring in a bulls nose!  That is exactly what happened to him when he was put into captivity!

14. A person no matter family or friend.
They have to do their own accepting, agreeing and changing.  We cannot do that for them.  Only the Lord can.  All we can do is pray and do the best we can to lead by example!

15. Isaiah 7:12
He tells the Lord, "I will not ask, I will not put the Lord to the test."

16.  My response:
I will make sure I have my quiet time daily so I can Listen to God's still quiet voice.

17. 2 Corinthians 4:7
But we have treasure in jars of clay to show that this, all-surpassing power is from God and not from us!
I'm gonna use the Message bible to paraphrase this verse:
If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness.  We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives.  That's to prevent anyone from confusing God's incomparable power with us.

Note Card Verses:
2 Corinthians 4:7
I have treasures in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us!

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise.  He is patient and wants everyone to come to repentance!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Day 4
Isaiah 39:5-6 Hear the word of the LORD Almighty:
The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.  Nothing will be left, says the LORD.

1. 2 Chronicles 29:10
He made a covenant with the Lord, so that the Lord's anger would trun from the people.
29:30 He ordered the people to worship the Lord
30:9 The Lord our God is gracious and compassionate

2. Hezekiah destroyed the high places and Jotham did not.

3. He used fear and intimidation.
For sure he spoke to them like they were not worthy of his breath so yes, I'm sure they were scared stiff.
But more than that ........
He tried to undermine their faith.
He sought to cause them to distrust God.

4.  They cried out in prayer to the heavens.

5. Isaiah 38
Just a few things out of many possible answers...
-felt he had been robbed of the rest of his years.....
-all he has worked for is gone......
-prayed "Lord come to my aid!"

6. Praise God!

7. His heart was proud-
he didn't respond to the kindness the Lord showed him.

8. King of Babylon

9. A prideful heart;
he took joy in showing off his treasures to his visitors!

10. Personal pride and Flaunting possessions
new car, a house, new boat, property, vacations, ect.
Anything girls that we may do or have that places us in a position of 'better than'.

11.  He knew that he lived by example-
He accepted the fact his decendants may not always keep his example.
"There will be peace and security in my lifetime."

12. Pride....Attack of the enemy
The more we intend to walk with the Lord-the harder the enemy works to knock us down!

13. My Response:
I will prayerfully ask God to reveal to me any hidden areas of pride in my life.

Note card verses:
2 Chronicles 32:1
I can be faithful to God and still be attacked by the enemy!
Isaiah 30:9
The Lord my God is gracious and compassionate!
---------------------------------------------
Day 5
Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.

1. Personal

2. Comfort, Comfort my people, says your God!

3. suffering

4. their cries

5. temptation in the desert, 40 days

6. in the power of the Spirit
Sometimes it is necessary to ask the spirit to give us the power to fulfill our duties, just to get through our day.  No matter how tired, worn out we are.  Ask the spirit to empower us with the energy we need.

7. freedom

8. preach good news to the poor
bind up the brokenhearted
proclaim freedom for the captives
release prisioners from darkness
comfort all who mourn
bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes
garment of praise instead of despair

9. Personal

10. examples of bondage
abuse, neglect, past failures, brokenhearted........

11. Respond
I loved this lesson, my heart is full of thankfulness that I am free because of Christ!
Freedom is mine through Christ, he already forgave me.  However, it is up to me through the power of the Spirit to forgive myself!!

Note card verses:
Jeremiah 17:9 The Message
The heart is hopelessly dark and decietful,
a puzzle that no one can figure out.
But I, God, search the heart,
and examine the mind.
I get to the heart of the human.
I get to the root of things.
I treat them as they really are,
not as they pretend to be.

Galatians 5:11
It is for freedom that Christ has set me free!
Stand firm! Don't be burdened again by the yoke of slavery.

Psalm 102:18
Let this be written for a future generation,
that a people not yet created may praise the LORD!

What a full five days of study we have had!
See you tomorrow morning girls.

Breaking Free | Beth Moore

Updated: 2009 Breaking Free Promo Video

Breaking Free: The Journey, The Stories by Beth Moore leads you through a study of the Scriptures to discover the transforming power of Christian freedom. Based on Isaiah 61:1-4, this in-depth Bible study draws parallels between the captive Israelites and today's believers. Beth uses Scripture to help identify spiritual strongholds in your life, no matter how big or small. She explains that anything that hinders us from the benefits of knowing God is bondage. Breaking Free is Beth's life message that she wants to share with you.  Read more...lifeway.com.

For my local readers, I will be taking this study at CTK Bellingham.

Leave me a comment with your email and I'll send you the details.

Others that are unable to take the study at church or to my friends and family out of town or state.  Here are the links to the online resources.

If you cannot attend the *church study but still wish to follow along with us,

here is the link to order the book and to the downloads for audio or video.

How does a homework study work?

Well, I have done two of them and had positive feedback.  So for the next 10 to 11 weeks we will be discussing our weekly homework.  Every Wednesday morning we meet at the church and carry on as normal, watch the video and discussion the weekly questions.  If you are a Monday night girl, you will be a couple of days ahead of us on Wednesdays.  I will do my best to post the five days of homework on Th, F, Sat, M and T.  This way we have a chance to discuss every day of homework before we meet again on Wednesday.  I am so excited to get started with this study, I bet you are too.

Remember this particular study is very personal and may be emotional at times.

Please keep this in mind when posting comments.

The idea of this blog is simply to have a means of contact for questions you may have and a way to communicate with others taking the same bible study.

{{You'll have to have your book with you in order for the homework post to make sense.

 I will not be able to 'quote' word for word anything from the workbook ....the questions will be simple and straight to the point in my own words.  If you have a question about where one of the answer are, post a comment and refer to the number and I'll post a page number it's on.}}

I'll post our first day of homework tomorrow and continue the five days thru Tuesday.

Relax, Enjoy and Remember there is no pressure.  Do what you can!

This is gonna be a good one.

My 2010 Resolutions | Part 7

I write this morning with a humble heart.  I am in awe of how the Lord has used this blog!  I have recieved many facebook notes, e-mails, phone calls, instant messages about how this study has touched you.  I want you to know I have read every single one of them and adore all of you so very much!  This study is not mine to claim.  There is no way I could've pulled something like this off, without the good Lord at my side the entire time.  I tell ya, honestly, I could've very easily shrugged off even attempting to do such a thing. He has started a new chapter of my life in 2010.  Something that I cannot explain in words, just know that he has kept me right where he wants me: on my knees seeking his face.

Some of you have asked what now?  Well, I am doing a bible study at my church and will use this blog as a 'discussion zone'.  Anyone is free to follow along and please comment if you wish.  I will announce the details of the study and links to where you can get material in another post.

If the good Lord has it in my future to write another study then let it be so!

As he leads; I will follow.

Alright, time to dig into the word!

Turn with me to Psalm 36:9.

For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light we see light.

According to Vine's Biblical Dictionary:

Without risking the chance I totally confuse you.

I have numbered the definitions, and will serve as the discussion headings.

Light means ....to become light, become lighted up, give light, cause light to shine.

Our topic verse and the Old Testament verses I will refer to, uses the hebrew definition which is an expression....

1. 'of a joyful, blessed life' in which the quality of 'life is enhanced'.

In the New Testament the greek definition means to...

2. 'light as seen by the eye', 'spiritual enlightenment', 'as 'reaching the mind' and being 'full of light which acts as the lamp of the body'.

1. 'of a joyful, blessed life' in which the quality of 'life is enhanced'.

Psalm 4:6

Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.

2 Samuel 22:29, 23:4

You are my lamp, O Lord, the LORD turns my darkness into light.  He is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth.

Psalm 18:28

You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

Psalm 19:8

The words of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. They are radiant, giving light to the eyes!

Psalm 119:105,130

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

The unfolding of your words gives light;  it gives understanding to the simple.

Now this passage I find fasinating, I hope you will too!

Psalm 37:3-7

Trust in the LORD and do good;

dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

Delight yourself in the LORD

and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD;

trust in him and he will do this:

He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,

the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him!!

Just maybe if you can bare with me a minute, do you think that the psalmist David is trying to tell us that the LORD has given us the 'land' we are in and this is where he intends us to be?  The differences is wether good or bad, trials or praises, joy or depression...there is the light of the LORD that shines on us to show us what way to go.  He extends a burning torch to us to carry throughout our lives. We must choose to grab ahold of it with both hands and never let go!  He is our strength, with him, we can overcome anything!

This Febuary the 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver, BC Canada.

I live in WA state close to the border.  My husband works construction so fortunately he has been blessed to work on a couple of major state highway expansions in the past five years to allow for the high volume of traffic on their way to Canada.  Every night we watch the Canadian news track the 'Torch Relay'.  I love watching the joy that fills the one blessed to carry it through streams of people lined up cheering them on.

Though we may not be the one blessed enough to carry an Olympic Torch. We are certainly blessed by our LORD enough to carry the torch he joyously gives us!  And this torch is one that will live in us forever and never get snuffed out.  However, it will be passed on to others in the Lord's Torch Relay!

You and I are made to SHINE as we carry the Lord's torch with joy and gladly light as many torches as we can and pray for each torch lit as it runs away on to the next torch carrier. Amen? Amen!

"We will see the light of life and be satisfied by his knowledge." Isaiah 53:11

2. 'light as seen by the eye', 'spiritual enlightenment', 'as 'reaching the mind' and being 'full of light which acts as the lamp of the body'.

Do everything readily and cheerfully--no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God.  Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I'll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns.  You'll be living proof that I didn't go to all this work for nothing. Philippians 2:15

Paul is speaking to the Philippians......he wants to make sure they completely understand what he has been teaching them....and that they will continue carrying their torches he has lit!

For God, who said, "Let light shine out of the darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.  2 Corinthians 4:6

Therefore we do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal! 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

The Message Bible paraphrases perfectly 'Reflect God's Glory'....

The Government of Death, its constitution chiseled on stone tablets, had a dazzling inaugural. Moses' face as he delivered the tablets was so bright that day (even though it would fade soon enough) that the people of Israel could no more look right at him than stare into the sun.

How much more dazzling, then, the Government of Living Spirit?

If the Government of Condemnation was impressive, how about this Government of Affirmation? Bright as that old government was, it would look downright dull alongside this new one. If that makeshift arrangement impressed us, how much more this brightly shining government installed for eternity?

With that kind of hope to excite us, nothing holds us back. Unlike Moses, we have nothing to hide. Everything is out in the open with us. He wore a veil so the children of Israel wouldn't notice that the glory was fading away—and they didn't notice. They didn't notice it then and they don't notice it now, don't notice that there's nothing left behind that veil. Even today when the proclamations of that old, bankrupt government are read out, they can't see through it. Only Christ can get rid of the veil so they can see for themselves that there's nothing there.

Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We're free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.

I conclude this study with tears in my eyes.  What a truly Awesome God we serve!

Let's see what the Lord has in store for us at the end of our torch relay!  When the Lord is standing before me, and he grabs the torch snuffer like in the show Survivor and snuffs out my torch and says "Well done good and faithful servant!"  Now that is something to look forward to....Believe me that is something I long for, and trust me my torch will not be in perfect condition ...it has been scratched, dinted, refinished, re-lit and may be barely blazing by the time I get there.  But I want to get there! AMEN!

Turn to the book of Revelation.

On that glorious day "His face will be like the sun shining in all it's brillance." 1:16

Heaven does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light! 21:23

There will be no more night. We will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give us light.  And will reign forever and ever! 22:5

I want to share an old children's church song I used to sing as a child.

Let's keep our lights shining!!!

This little light of mine,

I'm gonna let it shine

This little light of mine,

I'm gonna let it shine

This little light of mine,

I'm gonna let it shine

Let it shine,

Let it shine,

Let it shine.

Hide it under a bushel? No!

I'm gonna let it shine

Hide it under a bushel? No!

I'm gonna let it shine

Hide it under a bushel? No!

I'm gonna let it shine

Don't let Satan blow it out,

I'm gonna let it shine

Don't let Satan blow it out,

I'm gonna let it shine

Don't let Satan blow it out,

I'm gonna let it shine.

Shine all over

[name of town]

I'm gonna let it shine

Shine all over

[name of town]

I'm gonna let it shine

Shine all over

[name of town]

I'm gonna let it shine.

Let it shine til Jesus comes,

I'm gonna let it shine

Let it shine til Jesus comes,

I'm gonna let it shine

Let it shine til Jesus comes,

I'm gonna let it shine.

I'm gonna let it shine.

Shine for Jesus this year 2010!

I have enjoyed every single minute of this New Year Study.   All the while lifing my hands to the heavens screaming you are Awesome! I look forward to great things in 2010! He is up to something...that something is always good and will be revealed in His time not ours!

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey.  You have stolen my heart.

My 2010 Resolutions | Part 6

Boost my Confidence

I am so thrilled to share with you what I have studied about confidence!

According to Vine's Biblical Dictionary confidence means that which stands, or is set, under, a foundation, beginning.....the quality of confidence which leads one to stand under, endure, or undertake anything.

We are talking heavenly CPR here!  You and I can have the utmost confidence that our God will perform spiritual CPR on us whenever we call to him.  Ever feel like you need a little spiritual resuscitation?

Let's dive into the Word and see what the Lord has to say about our confidence.

1. The Lord Knows

First of all girls, the Lord knows!  The Lord knows!

Talk about spiritual CPR.  He has a plan for us and that plan will be brought to completion no matter what!

All the days ordained for me

were written in your book

before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16

He knows us far better than we know ourselves, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.  Romans 8:28-29

The ultimate good!!

I am still confident of this:

I will see the goodness of the LORD. Psalm 27:13

2. Transform Our Lives

We have to be willing to surrender ourselves to him completely, wholeheartedly!  Then watch the joy and peace fill you.

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves,

but our competence comes from God. 2 Cor 3:5

3. Approaching God

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. Eph 3:12

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14

The fruit of righteousness will be peace;

the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.

Isaiah 32:17

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:16

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. Hebrews 10:35

My 2010 Resolutions | Part 5

Topic Verse is Proverbs 2:4 but let's back up to verse 1-5.  Verse 4 tells us to search for her as silver and hidden treasure.  What does 'her' refer to?

In 2 Chronicles 1 Solomon asks for wisdom and knowledge.  God answered him:

"Since this is your heart's desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge.  Therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor."

Wisdom.......A treasure worth seeking;  Amen?

Proverbs 2:1-5

If you accept my words

and store up my commands within you,

turning your ear to wisdom

and applying your heart to understanding,

and if you look for it as for silver

and search for it as for hidden treasure,

then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Paul writes:  My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:2-3

What is the Ultimate Treasure we are searching for?  Five Crowns in Heaven.

A skilled master builder lays a foundation, and another builds on it.  But each one must be careful how he builds on it, because no one can lay any other foundation than what has been laid-that is Jesus Christ.  If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, each one's work will become obvious, for the day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire;  the fire will test the quality of each one's work.  If anyone's work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward.  If anyone's work is burned up, it will be lost, but he will be saved; yet it will be like an escape through fire.

1 Corinthians 3:10-15 HCSB

Before we jump into the five crowns let's look at Psalm 103.  Read the entire chapter then let it sink in.

1. Praise the LORD, O my soul;

all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

2. Praise the LORD, O my soul,

and forget not all his benefits-

3. who forgives all your sins

and heals all your diseases,

4. who redeems your life from the pit

and crowns you with love and compassion,

5. who satisfies your desires with good things

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

6. The LORD works righteousness

and justice for all the oppressed.

7. He made known his ways to Moses,

his deeds to the people of Israel:

8. The LORD is compassionate and gracious,

slow to anger, abounding in love.

9. He will not always accuse,

nor will he harbor his anger forever;

10. he does not treat us as our sins deserve

or repay us according to our iniquities.

11. For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

so great is his love for those who fear him;

12 as far as the east is from the west,

so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

13. As a father has compassion on his children,

so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;

14. for he knows how we are formed,

he remembers that we are dust.

15. As for man, his days are like grass,

he flourishes like a flower of the field;

16. the wind blows over it and it is gone,

and its place remembers it no more.

17. But from everlasting to everlasting

the LORD's love is with those who fear him,

and his righteousness with their children's children-

18. with those who keep his covenant

and remember to obey his precepts.

19. The LORD has established his throne in heaven,

and his kingdom rules over all.

20. Praise the LORD, you his angels,

you mighty ones who do his bidding,

who obey his word.

21. Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,

you his servants who do his will.

22. Praise the LORD, all his works

everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the LORD, O my soul.

Now moving on to the Five Crowns in Heaven!  If you want to research this more simply google Crowns in Heaven and you'll get enough links to make your mind explode.

1. The Crown of Self-Denial

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. However, they do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.  1 Corinthians 9:25 HCSB

2. The Soul Winners Crown

Paul refers to the Philipians as his joy and crown.  Paul was a soul winner for Christ.  Paul lead by example teaching them to set their minds on heavenly things...their reward in heaven. Philipians 4:1

Works of faith, labor of love, steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

In 1 Thessalonians 2:19.. For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes?  Is it not you?

3. The Crown of Righteousness

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

2 Timothy 4:8

4. The Crown of Glory

You will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

1 Peter 5:4

5. The Crown of  Life

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.  James 1:12

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10

Change has a price tag of self-denial-disipline-control.

You may have to give up some things you treasure;

To gain the real treasure of a transformed life.

You crown the year with Your goodness;

Your ways overflow with plenty. Psalm 65:11 HCSB

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
