Week Four Homework | James Mercy Triumphs

Session  Four

Beth Moore Quotes:
Welcome every person God has put in front of us.
Someone is sitting there waiting for you to lift their chin and notice them.
That person could very well be the best friend you ever had.
It's up to you.

Reflections:
The Royal Rule of Love (The Message Bible)
James:1-4My dear friends, don't let public opinion influence how you live out our glorious, Christ-originated faith. If a man enters your church wearing an expensive suit, and a street person wearing rags comes in right after him, and you say to the man in the suit, "Sit here, sir; this is the best seat in the house!" and either ignore the street person or say, "Better sit here in the back row," haven't you segregated God's children and proved that you are judges who can't be trusted?

5-7Listen, dear friends. Isn't it clear by now that God operates quite differently? He chose the world's down-and-out as the kingdom's first citizens, with full rights and privileges. This kingdom is promised to anyone who loves God. And here you are abusing these same citizens! Isn't it the high and mighty who exploit you, who use the courts to rob you blind? Aren't they the ones who scorn the new name—"Christian"—used in your baptisms?

8-11You do well when you complete the Royal Rule of the Scriptures: "Love others as you love yourself." But if you play up to these so-called important people, you go against the Rule and stand convicted by it. You can't pick and choose in these things, specializing in keeping one or two things in God's law and ignoring others.

Remember:
Can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others?  James 2:1 NLT Be quick to hear slow to speak.

But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:25 NLT

Homework:
Discussion Week Three:
page 73  How might Eph 4:30-31 imply that anger could affect the manifestation of the Spirit in us?
Anger grieves the Spirit.  Forgive as in Christ: God forgave us.

page 79 James 1:25 what is the promise at the end of the verse? This person will be blessed in what they do.

page 84 After James tells us what true religion is not, he sketches two quick images of what true religion is. Read James 1:27 and describe his idea of pure and undefiled religion.
To look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

page 89 James 2:4 If we discriminate, what do we become?  Judges with evil thoughts.

page 92 What is the royal law? Love...your neighbor as yourself.

I document our Homeschool Adventures as part of a record keeping system, separate from my scrapbook albums.  Notice the absence of 'school work' from my weekly project life. This week I pulled together some daily journal cards and used our school snapshots to show them off. Here's a closer look.. and a giveaway.

Digital Project Life | Week Three

Oh my goodness!  Where do I start?  Well first this week was full of complete randomness. Not a heavy schedule. Really. Yes.  Really. Honestly I didn't even realize my 'laziness' when it came to snapshots.  Even though my photos were few and errands and field trips were zero.  We managed to survive.  Somehow.  Here we go.  Week. Three......

I used the saying in the top Project Life Journaling card that says.. Gotta Love The Everyday Moments That Make Life Grand! So there you have it... my inspiration behind my little black highlighted boxes. *wink.  A couple of sayings from pinterest.

Yep, this week was complete random!  Complete full of fun-ness! Love the simplicity!
Happy... You guessed it.... in case you were already on to me. *wink

Week Three Homework | James Mercy Triumphs

Session Three

Quotes:
{A person can live with pain easier than purposelessness.}
Anguish and joy can coexist.
Anguish and joy can trade places.
Same nightmare of life leads to joy.
The source of anguish can morph into joy.
Mental anguish can be like the mind in labor.
Anguish is meant to lead to a birth.

Reflections:
Brokenness, Pain, Heartbreak she refers to anguish.  Anguish that is not (supposed) to be permanent, but rather be used as our passion: our joy.

Pain turned into Passion.

The homework on pg. 63 she asks you to divide your life into quarters.  Having done this then wrapping up our small group discussion time.  We watched session three,  it is point blank about what your life has to do with living out loud - a meaningful life laid out as God's will.

Pain turned into Passion.

John 16:22 Noone can take away your joy! Jesus himself is our joy,  that none can take away!
Psalm 47:1 Cries of joy!
Psalm 30:11 You turned my wailing into dancing and clothed me with joy.

Remember:
Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.  James 1:2-3
Recieve a crown of beauty instead of ashes. Isaiah 61:3

Homework:
Discussion Week Two:

pg. 45 What does the 'testing of your faith' give you?
perserverance

pg. 50 James 1:5. How can we expect God to respond to our plea for wisdom?
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. NIV

pg. 54 Hebrews 10:32-34 and pinpoint the part that suggests an outbreak of poverty among early converts to Christ.
Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.  NIV

pg. 58 What does Proverbs 19:3 say about temptation?
A person’s own folly leads to their ruin,  yet their heart rages against the LORD.

pg. 61 What does verse 16 warn about?
Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.  James 1:16 NIV

Digital Project Life | Week Two

Ironing out all the unorganized wrinkles involved with this project.  Maybe if I didn't let it set in the dryer, it wouldn't be all wrinkled and need to be ironed out!  Ha! Pardon my pun, but as I set here typing .. my mind wandered off to my dryer that stopped hours ago.  Ugh!  The little clock in the right hand side of my laptop just turned 12:01 am.  Shesh! Time flies when your photoshopin'... yep that is a word.. at least right this very moment cause I don't want to correct it.

Enough rambling Melanie! Get on to project life. Thanks for the reminder.
Here we go... Week 2 and a little free download:

To my MAN,
Love is. Love is. Love is day in - day out living.
Love is taking time. Love is being teachable. Love is listening.
Love is putting ones needs first. Love is embracing every moment.
Love is open arms and a giving heart. Love is celebrating life together.

Love is when you marry your closest friend. Love is the special life we share.

Love you more, Happy Wedding Day!
 ~A Woman in LOVE.

The day after our 1st snow.  When we got home from Tulsa, it seemed the snow was disappearing quickly. Ruger insisted on just one more run through the snow that remained. You bring so much joy.
Love you.

Fabulous View Love!  Our property displays the most perfect view of the E & W.  So I marvel at Sunrises and Sunsets. We are truly blessed to be a part of God's creation.
Raeleen and I were able to take an evening for a Daughter/Mom date.
We had so much fun snacking on popcorn, sipping root beer & making fun of ourselves in 3d glasses.  Belle is by far our favorite Princess and wouldn't have rather been any where else in the world.  If you have a chance to take your darling Princess to Beauty and the Beast 3-D.... Oh! Do go!

Hello Tulsa! Whatcha find? I do believe Mr. Ruger has found something with wings.
Sunday R/R = food + football.  Snow from Heaven.
Whew! There it is.  Week 2 in 2012.  I'm exhausted. Now, to my ironing...... *wink*

Happy Thursday! ~Melanie

Week Two Homework | James Mercy Triumphs

Session Two

Beth Moore Quotes:
"James draws straight from the well of Jesus' teachings more than any other NT author."
"The message of James can be captured in two words: Live it!"
"Our faith is never more than our works."
"Getting back our JOY through OBEDIENCE!"

Reflections:
According to dates: James may have been the first NT book ever written.
James is dead on, straight to the point.   This session is: well she warns at the beginning that she has to weed through a bit of technical stuff before we move on to the good stuff.
However, please don't skip this weeks homework because of this.  It gets better,  back to the soul restoring words we as ladies long to hear.  I want so badly to skip right to some homework goodies but will push hold or you'll lose me for sure.

Main idea of James: To live it!
James' opening:  Greetings at the conclusion of James 1:1: means Joy to You.  I paraphrased the verse below in remember, as an attempt for easy memorization.

Remember:
James 1:1 James, a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, Joy to You!

Homework:
Discussion Week One:

Level 2: How's your homework going?  Yes, it's completely okay just to stay with the video and group discussion.  Here a few tidbits from my homework.

pg. 21 When the call of Christ sears a hold through your self-protectiveness, you go wherever He leads whether or not you feel like you fit.  The power of the resurrection trumps the power of the past if we're willing to let it.

pg. 23 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body.  So it is with Christ. 1 Cor. 12:12

pg. 24 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

pg. 30  Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original. Galatians 5:25-26

pg. 34 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as we are.” Acts 15:11

pg. 37 Surely, He himself "is our peace." Ephesians 2:14

Level 3: Any of you writing out the book of James, level 3? Beth prompted us in this session to write out the very first verse of James. pg. 214 James 1:1. Personally I'm a visual learner, so when I write something out, it makes it more real and embeds into my brain rather than just reading. No worries if this isn't your thing, carry on at your own personal level.

Level 4: Any of you reading Melissa's writings?
I am!  If your feeling scholarly you'll love what she has to say.  I find digging deep into the word of God fascinating.  But it's not for everyone, so dig as deep as you are comfortable.

Level 5:  Memorize the book of James!  All I have to say to this:  Really?  I've never been one for memorizing word for word anything, so I don't think I'll be stepping out onto this level.  I'm sure I will know the book well but hardly word for word.  If you are tackling this: Beth wants to know and left her email in this session.

Digital Project Life | Week One

It is my goal doing Project Life in a Digital format, but trying to keep it as 'real' as possible.
So here is my two page spread with a 6x12 insert. Here we are..the first week of 2012!  I have decided this Project Life concept is simple if one is organized. Yes.. I am doing Digital Project Life but either way it's done the key is storage (files), product (graphics), and having a load of inspirational words (word art) handy. My philosophy is extremely simple: Keep on track, jot down notes as I snap the photos and focus on a few stories rather than the whole week of life.  Project Life to Me = Capturing Life with Snapshots + Inspirational Words and Sayings. Some weeks are busier than others, so I wish to highlight only the closest stories. There are a few stories untold this week due to the crazy happenings of a New Year.
Page One

I have choose to document those stories on stand alone layouts using regular digital scrapbook elements.
{Close-ups}

So I always save the x-rays and Dr. notes, appointment cards...... I do usually scan the original just for keeps sake. I tried so hard to resist the need to add this insert for this week.  As you can see the need to show their x-ray mouths won. I scanned the originals. Cropped out the teeth into 3 x 6 images. Added names and dates. Created a 6 x 12 template to house all 4 - 3 x 6 images. So I'm really glad I did it!  Gives it quite a unique feel don't you think?
Page Two

{Close-ups}

I added a drop shadow to my list of things and not really crazy about it.
Think it's because of the font I used.  Not a great fit.  So next time I'll mess around with that a bit more.

The older boys get to play a little paintball and the littles some trampoline.

Here's to week one complete! Yay!  I so have to NOT over think this project.  This is definitely a work on throughout the week project. :) ~Melanie

Project Life | 2012 Title Page

Ready... Set... Project Life... Here we GO! I debated, debated and yep I debated some more.  I convinced myself: Not another Project!  Till finally I twisted my own arm,  What's the big deal?  I can handle just one more Project and here I set typing my very first Project Life post for 2012. I have read the hype about this product....and read some more.  Till I really really really ignored and tried really really hard to NOT to. I have taken the plunge and so excited I did.  For really.  Looking forward to all this project has to offer.  I couldn't decide between BH Turquoise or BH Clementine.  My heart fell in love with Turquoise- so that is what I purchased.  Being I'm doing Digital Project Life,  I will certainly add a few tidbits as I go.  I made the template for my title page... when BH announced she was joining up with JS I was thrilled.  Then the big release and not one template did they offer.  So I made 10 for my personal use.  If your wondering how to get your hands on a project life template..... JS does offer them now.  Today I have been putting together another post for week one.  Here's looking forward to 52 weeks. I'll be hopping around to other blogs and project life forums.  I need all the motivation I can gather to make this happen.  I mean really, for really, there's a LOT of livin' to do in 52 weeks.  I would love to link up and see your pages.   ~M

Week One Homework | James Mercy Triumphs

Welcome to James Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore.  For the next several weeks I will be posting tidbits about this study. Every Sunday about each session I will share an outline of my notes... a few quotes by the author... some reflections (whatever speaks to my heart)... as well as my favorite scriptures I choose to remember.  A quick recap about this study....

Bible scholars compare James to the prophet Amos. In other ways James more closely resembles the Book of Proverbs than any New Testament book. Come along with Beth Moore on a journey to get to know both the man and the Book of James. You will never be the same again. Topics in this study include: joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility, and prayer. lifeway.com

Now let's get to the tidbits in Session One:
Beth Moore Quotes:
"Family does not shrink... Family grows." LOVE IT!

"Be known for who you have been delivered to.. not for what you have been delivered from."

Reflections:
Jesus appeared to those who needed to see him the most. 1 Corinthians 15:5-8 vs. 7 James was one of "those."  The power of the resurrection means that nothing but the tomb is meant to be empty. We are meant to be full of Grace. (see remember below)

Remember:
1 Corinthians 15:10  By the Grace of God, I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect.

Homework:
Keep it up!  Just a little everyday.  Even if you only answer the one highlighted question,  that's great!  When I post an update for homework discussion throughout the week it will more than likely include those questions.  If you're feeling scholarly write the entire book of James.  You'll find all the space to do so in the back of your workbook.  Wasn't that so nice of them to do that. :)  I plan on typing mine out a little over the next 8 weeks,  you'll see the book of James popping up all over the blog, my art journal, project life and even my homeschool updates...... yep when I do a bible study I'm all over the place with it! My husband and kids memorize scriptures without trying mainly because the post its are stuck all over the house and my books are in numerous places that a person may have to move on occasion.
Have fun with it!!
