The Davidic Covenant
The major role in salvation is just ahead as we study the Davidic Covenant and what it all means. Were going to go to 2 Sam 7 , read it entirely then look at vs. 13 and 16.
13"He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
16"Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever."'
David wanted to build a house for the Lord, The Lord reminds David that He never asked for a House to dwell in, but made it clear He will have a house build for Him. Davids was told by God that his son would build it.
God calls this promise, this agreement...let's look at the following verses to find out.
2 Chronicles 13:5 Don't you know that the Lord, has given the kingship of Israel to David and his descendants forever.
2 Chronicles 21:7 Because of the covenant the Lord made with David He was not willing to destroy the House of David. he had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his decendants forever.
Psalm 89:3,4,29
The Lord has made a covenant with the chosen one, establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations. Lord will establish his line forever, as long as the heavens endure.
After reading in Acts per your homework....How important was the covenant with David? How did it help to define who the true Messiah, the Christ, the Annointed one would be? The fullfillment of the covenant through Abraham (seed), Judah (tribe), David (house). Matt 1:1
